Lizards and acrobats

First, to explain the pictures, Matt was on the back porch cleaning when he saw this lizard on a brown flower pot. He moved it to the green flower pot in the picture and the lizard changed colors to match its background. The first picture shows about 50% change and the 2nd picture shows him pretty much completely green.

On to more exciting things. The big highlight this weekend was going to a FREE show at Miller Outdoor Theatre (a theatre about 5 minutes from our apartment) with our friends Mike and Kristie Smith. Mike is in his 2nd year of law school and Kristie is a pediatric intern at Texas Children's hospital. They are friends of ours from church. We had a picnic prior to the show. The show was put on by a traveling group from China featuring acrobatics, juggling, and contortion. We were surprised at the level of quality and entertainment. We weren't allowed to take pictures and unfortunately the acts are very difficult to describe. We got a kick out of the music. It was a mix of hawaiian, country, etc. all in foreign languages. The last song sounded like Backstreet Boys being sung in Chinese.

Saturday, we relaxed, watched all our favorite football teams win/lose close games, and then had our friends Eric and Joselyn over for dessert. They are also friends of our's from church and we enjoyed getting to knowt them more.

Today (Sunday), we went to church and enjoyed a really good message about Enoch. Pastor Boys also pointed out something really cool. Everyone knows Methuselah lived to be the oldest man recorded in history (969 yrs.). Methuselah's name means "when he dies it shall come". Methuselah died the same year of the flood. Pastor Boys pointed out that this was another example of the Lord's longsuffering as he withheld the flood and judgment for the length of the life of the man who lived the longest.

After church we went out to eat with the Fords at the River Oaks Country Club. I always find it quite humorous to drive my Scort into the club and park next to the luxury vehicles. They are both in their 80's and have been married 62 years. Dr. Ford is a retired internal medicine doctor who loves to ask questions. Usually while he is asking questions, his sweet wife is shaking her head and asking if he is bugging everyone with all his questions. We discussed things like why there is no recent epiphany or physical presence of God on earth and the beauty of music and its purpose/how evolution can't explain music.

Today was the first day that felt like fall!!! Finally it dropped into the high 50's at night and tonight might be in the 40's.

Matt is starting his surgical rotation on Monday, which means he will be working very long hours with probably very little sleep for the next 3 months. We will do our best to keep up with the blog during the craziness.
