'Destin'ation

We are back from our 1200 mile vacation in Destin, Florida. We have provided some pictures of the road trip and 'Destin'ation along with our typical comentary. Here is a water tower in Biloxi, Mississippi. It is difficult to read but there is also a sign for a Waffle House. We counted 15 Waffle Houses along the way. We also counted "idiot drivers" (as we fondly referred to them) on the way there and back, totaling 39. The qualifications to receive this illustrious title were not just high speeds, but very dangerous moves on the highway. There were also 8 oversize loads between Baton Rouge and Alabama.




Here is a picture of a tunnel that goes under Mobile, Alabama. I thought it was pretty cool and no we did not hold our breath. We did play Sweet Home Alabama after we crossed the border into Alabama though.

Here is the Hilton in Sandestin, Florida. It was really nice. We were even treated to a fireworks show we weren't expecting. The Hilton shot the fireworks from the beach and they were literally right over head. It was amazing! We would include a picture but we really just happened upon it! We also happened upon some great deals at a huge outlet mall we found. We found J.Crew pants for $10 a pair, a polo shirt for $7, a skirt at Gap outlet for $7 and a gift for our niece's birthday for $10. We were quite excited!

This is a view of the Hiton's private beach. The water was 80 degrees and the sand was white and did not burn your feet.

We rented an umbrella and two chairs for Monday and this was our view. Unfortunately the sun eventually hit our feet we both burned (Matt worse).

Here is the view from our hotel balcony. The Hilton is tucked back in a gated community with another hotel and some condos.

Here is the only picture of us on the beach at sunset. (Trust us, no one needs a picture of us in our swimsuits!) It would be hard to differentiate us from the white sand.

This was my (Kara) first time crossing the Mississippi river that I remember. I apparently crossed it once in Minnesota, but don't really remember it well. We had to take this picture on the way home. We obviously crossed it on the way to Florida, but we didn't realize it. We were looking for it in Mississippi, but it's actually in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!

This picture shows the winshield of our car after it was hit with a piece of flying debris. We still aren't sure what hit, but we're just thankful it didn't go through the window, or Matt's face would have been the next target! It's hard to tell here, but it left a half-dollar size ding!

We took this picture for all of you who live in California. Yes, gas is again under $2.oo.

Here was a rainbow that greeted us when we came into Houston, following 3 hours of driving in the rain. The Lord brought us home safe!
